Menu not Monday

We got off track so I'm just starting over with today.
Sat: roasted eggplant soup
Sun: go out for our anniversary
Mon: butternut squash soup
Tues: roasted beets and sweet potatoes
Wed: beans and rice
Thurs: homemade mac and cheese
Fri: pasta with pesto
I think I've gotten a little more realistic as to what I can actually do during the time that Ada might or might not sleep, so hopefully I can actually stick to it this time. And it seems to make more sense to do the meal plan on Friday or Saturday so I can get things from the farmer's market, so I think I'm going to start doing that.

Menu Monday

Last week went really well, until Thursday. On Thursday I was too busy to make the soup and bread, so we had the beans and rice that were scheduled for Friday. Then Friday we just had leftovers, but we really needed to because they had piled up. Saturday we had the BBQ tofu sandwiches, as planned, but Sunday was another leftovers/random packaged stuff day. Oh well, we did better than we usually do, at least. Anyway, on to this week.
Mon: salad with tofu
Tues: zucchini garden chowder (from Simply in Season) and fociccia (also SIS)
Wed: pasta with pesto
Thurs: felafel with baba ganouj
Fri: leftovers
Sat: butternut squash bisque (hopefully, if squash is at the farmer's market yet. I saw one stand with them last week, so hopefully there will be more next weekend; if not, we'll wing it with farmer's market-y goodness)
Sun: pizza with pesto and random veggies

Farmer's Market day!

We've done a pretty good job of sticking with our meal plan for the week, but we did end up having the beans and rice on Thursday and just having leftovers on Friday. We ended up with more leftovers than I thought we would, so I think we're going to have to plan a leftovers day every week. I thought we would use them up on lunches, but I guess not.
We went to the farmer's market today, which was really fun. We slept in until 12, so we almost didn't make it (they close at 2), but we really wanted to go and I'm so glad we rushed to get ready so we could. We got a ton of veggies so next week's menu should be exciting, and we got SO much basil. We bought one bunch and then found a stand that had a buy 4 get the 5th free sign, so we got 5 more. I see a lot of pesto in our future. Unfortunately, though, the garlic stand wasn't there, so we had to get garlic from another stand. I'm sure it will be great, but the stand that sells only garlic and has 6 or 7 varieties to choose from would have been better.
On the way home, Ada cried on the streetcar and I had two older women ask if she was hungry. "Yep, but she's in trouble so we're not feeding her today." I mean, seriously. For the record, I fed her at the market right before we left, so she really wasn't hungry, but even if she was, I'm pretty sure I'd know better than random streetcar people. Gabash.

Hello!

Hi! I'm Erinne, new mama to Ada. I'm starting this blog to chronicle my new life. Hopefully I can keep myself accountable as a stay-at-home mom and domestic goddess. I've never been great at cooking and cleaning, and with a baby who never wants to be put down, I need all the motivation I can get.
I'm also going to give meal planning a try, although I'm not ready to commit to Meal Plan Monday quite yet. So, here's this week:
Mon: chicken and sweet potato curry with rice (I don't really eat meat, but I'll put it in for Philip (the husband), and add some more veggies for myself)
Tues: veggie pizza (Philip made dough and froze some yesterday)
Wed: honey baked lentils and quinoa
Thurs: veggie bean soup and beer bread
Fri: Cuban-style black beans and rice
Sat: bbq tofu sandwiches and salad with whatever looks good at the farmer's market
Sun: Moroccan chickpea soup and some kind of bread
I'll try to make lots of everything so we can start a freezer stash of things for lunch, since I'm home every day and Philip works from home or takes his lunch most days.
